Dans The Hunger Games de Suzanne Collins, une division nette existe entre l’opulence du Capitole et les districts en difficult\u00e9, d\u00e9peignant vivement un monde rempli de disparit\u00e9s \u00e9conomiques et politiques. Cette m\u00e9taphore est un avertissement pour le Canada, o\u00f9 un foss\u00e9 \u00e9conomique croissant entre les zones urbaines et rurales pr\u00e9cipite des divisions profondes.<\/h3>\n

Au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, les plus grandes zones m\u00e9tropolitaines du Canada \u2013 Montr\u00e9al, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa-Gatineau, Calgary et Edmonton \u2013 sont devenues de plus en plus prosp\u00e8res. Bien que ces r\u00e9gions abritent 47 % de la population canadienne, elles ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 environ les trois quarts de tous les nouveaux emplois entre 2016 et 2020. En contraste frappant, certaines communaut\u00e9s rurales et \u00e9loign\u00e9es n’ont pas retrouv\u00e9 l’emploi perdu lors de la r\u00e9cession mondiale de 2008-2009. Cette disparit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique est plus qu’une statistique; c’est un catalyseur pour un foss\u00e9 politique croissant, mena\u00e7ant le tissu de notre pays.<\/p>\n

Les habitants des zones rurales, qui souvent font face \u00e0 des opportunit\u00e9s limit\u00e9es, peuvent se sentir n\u00e9glig\u00e9s par les d\u00e9cideurs politiques des centres urbains. Cela conduit parfois \u00e0 de la frustration et de la col\u00e8re, contribuant \u00e0 une polarisation politique accrue.<\/p>\n

Les divisions politiques actuelles au Canada sont largement bas\u00e9es sur la fracture rurale-urbaine. Lors des \u00e9lections f\u00e9d\u00e9rales canadiennes de 2019, la densit\u00e9 de population m\u00e9diane des 157 circonscriptions lib\u00e9rales \u00e9tait plus de 38 fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle des 121 circonscriptions conservatrices.
